ASKOLL KH TEST is a high-precision titration kit designed to measure the carbonate hardness (KH) of aquarium water. KH, or alkalinity, reflects the water’s ability to buffer pH changes, a vital factor in maintaining a stable aquatic environment.
Ideal KH levels vary depending on the aquarium type: in planted freshwater aquariums, a range of 3–5° KH is typical, while in marine and reef tanks, levels between 10–12° KH are recommended to support coral growth and health.

Why measure KH: Carbonate hardness stabilizes pH and serves as an important carbon source for nitrifying bacteria. Maintaining optimal KH levels ensures a balanced ecosystem and prevents harmful pH fluctuations.
How to perform the test:
Rinse the test vial with aquarium water
Fill with 5 ml of aquarium water
Add the KH reagent one drop at a time, shaking gently after each drop
When the solution turns from blue to yellow, the number of drops added equals the KH degree
If it turns yellow after just one drop, KH is less than or equal to 1°
