CRYPTOCORYNE X PURPUREA – Rare Marbled Leaf Crypt from Borneo for the Foreground
Cryptocoryne x purpurea is a rare aquatic hybrid from Southeast Asia, specifically Borneo, resulting from the natural cross between Cryptocoryne griffithii and Cryptocoryne cordata. Known for its striking marbled leaf patterns, it brings an elegant, exotic look to planted aquariums, especially for natural layouts and biotope-inspired aquascapes.
This plant remains relatively small, reaching a maximum height of 10 cm, making it ideal for the foreground. Although it grows more slowly than other Cryptocoryne species, its compact structure and eye-catching foliage make it a premium choice for aquascaping enthusiasts.
As with all Cryptocorynes, a nutrient-rich substrate is essential, as it absorbs most nutrients through the roots. It thrives in medium to high lighting, soft to neutral water, and benefits greatly from CO₂ supplementation, though it can adapt to more basic setups.
Propagation is via underground runners, gradually forming neat, dense clusters over time. Due to its rarity, it is especially valued by experienced hobbyists and plant collectors.
