ECHINODORUS PALAEFOLIUS XL – Large, Versatile Aquarium Plant for Submerged or Emerged Growth

Echinodorus palaefolius XL, latifolius variety, is a Brazilian aquatic plant known for its elegant growth habit and adaptability to both submerged and emersed environments. In marshy conditions, it develops a horizontal leaf base and a wide rosette, while under water it produces long, narrow, arching leaves ranging from 20 to 40 cm in length, with a rosette up to 40 cm wide. The XL format is carefully grown for several months to ensure a strong, fully developed plant that’s ready for immediate placement in the aquarium.

This species naturally tends to grow out of the water. To keep it fully submerged, simply trim the longer leaves just before they reach the surface; the following leaves will be shorter, helping the plant stay compact and underwater. It is also well-suited for open tanks, where it can grow above the waterline, though low air humidity may cause leaf edges to dry out.

Echinodorus palaefolius XL is especially suited as a background or midground plant in large tanks, where its vertical growth and lush foliage can fully develop. It thrives in medium to high light and prefers nutrient-rich substrates. CO₂ and fertilization enhance growth, but are not strictly necessary. With its graceful form and potential for emergent growth, it adds dynamic verticality and a natural touch to South American biotopes or nature aquascapes.
