JUNCUS REPENS – Moderately Growing Aquatic Plant for Natural and Paludary Layouts
Juncus repens is an herbaceous marsh plant native to the southeastern United States, thriving in shallow, swampy waters. In aquariums, this species adapts well to submerged life and is easy to maintain, making it a suitable choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.
It grows slowly to a height of up to 10 cm, ideal for use in the middle ground or as a filler plant between stones and driftwood. Its grass-like appearance allows for the creation of decorative aquatic meadows. Under high lighting and adequate micronutrients, its tips can take on a reddish hue, adding visual depth and contrast.
Juncus repens prefers soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with a CO₂ concentration of 20–30 mg/l for optimal growth. It propagates via adventitious shoots, making it easy to expand its coverage across the aquascape.
