CRYPTOCORYNE AFFINIS – Hardy Aquarium Plant with Olive-Green and Brown Foliage
Cryptocoryne affinis is a slow-growing, durable aquatic plant from the Araceae family, native to Malaysia. Its distinctive olive-green to brown submerged leaves make it a favorite among aquarists for over five decades. It is particularly suited for aquariums with hard or slightly alkaline water, and its ability to thrive under moderate conditions makes it a top choice for cichlid tanks.
All Dennerle Cryptocoryne plants are cultivated emersed and develop their true appearance only once submerged. The transition between emersed and submerged growth results in noticeable changes in leaf shape and color. In the aquarium, C. affinis reaches up to 30 cm in height, making it ideal for the midground where it provides depth and natural balance to aquascapes.
The plant propagates via runners, forming low clusters over time. While it doesn't require high light or CO₂, moderate CO₂ levels (10–20 mg/l) will encourage better growth and coloration. This species is well-suited for beginners due to its resilience and adaptability.
