STAUROGYNE REPENS – Slow-Growing Foreground Plant for Natural Aquascaping
Staurogyne repens is a compact and slow-growing aquarium plant ideal for creating lush foreground carpets in freshwater tanks. Native to Brazil and a member of the Acanthaceae family, this plant resembles a miniature Hygrophila but is unique in its creeping growth and bushy form. With a low height of up to 10 cm and small green leaves, it’s an excellent choice for natural aquascapes and detailed layout design.
Under optimal conditions, Staurogyne repens spreads horizontally across the substrate, forming dense green clusters. It thrives under medium to high lighting and requires a nutrient-rich substrate for healthy development. Regular trimming of the stem tips encourages the plant to produce more lateral shoots, resulting in a thick, even carpet. For aquascaping purposes, it pairs beautifully with carpeting species such as Hemianthus callitrichoides.
