HYGROPHILA SP. ARAGUAIA – In Vitro Aquarium Plant with Reddish-Purple Leaves for Midground Use

Hygrophila sp. 'Araguaia', also known as Hygrophila lancea from Japan and Hong Kong, is a compact and decorative stem plant perfect for the midground of freshwater aquariums. Grown in vitro in a high-quality sterile gel, it is entirely free from snails, pests, and algae, making it safe for tanks with shrimp or sensitive fish. With fast, manageable growth and a maximum height of 20 cm, this plant forms neat, uniform clusters over time.

The leaves exhibit a rich reddish to purplish hue—an indicator of healthy development—and their slender shape adds contrast to green-dominated scapes. It thrives under medium lighting with moderate CO₂ supplementation, making it suitable for both low-tech and advanced layouts.

Main features:

  • Reddish to purple decorative foliage

  • Fast-growing, max height 20 cm, compact structure

  • Ideal for midground planting in planted tanks

  • In vitro cultured: free from snails, pests, and algae

  • Requires medium light and moderate CO₂ for best results

  • Forms dense and harmonious clusters over time

  • Excellent for natural layouts and shrimp-safe aquariums

Planting instructions:

  • Remove the plant from the cup and rinse off all gel

  • Divide into 1–2 cm clumps

  • Plant using tweezers in the substrate with spacing for spreading

  • Watch it develop into a dense, colorful group
