HYGROPHILA PINNATIFIDA – Branched Aquarium Plant with Brown and Burgundy Leaves, Ideal for Wood and Rock

Hygrophila pinnatifida is a striking aquarium plant originating from India, known for its unique appearance and ability to attach itself to hard surfaces like driftwood and rocks. Its deeply lobed leaves take on a rich brown color with attractive burgundy undersides, adding a natural and wild texture to any aquascape. With moderate growth, it reaches heights of 15–40 cm and widths up to 20 cm, making it ideal for midground placement or for attaching to hardscape elements in the foreground.

One of its defining features is the development of horizontal side shoots, which allow it to spread and anchor easily to wood or stones. To keep a neat and compact growth form, regular trimming of vigorous shoots is recommended. Under strong lighting and with sufficient CO₂, Hygrophila pinnatifida shows off its full color potential and forms a beautiful, dense cluster.

Main features:

  • Native to India with branched and compact growth

  • Brown leaves with burgundy undersides for a wild aesthetic

  • Horizontal shoots allow easy attachment to hardscape

  • Reaches 15–40 cm in height and up to 20 cm in width

  • Requires intense light and CO₂ for optimal growth

  • Best grown in groups for maximum decorative effect

  • Easily fixed to wood or rock using moss or thread

Why choose Hygrophila pinnatifida:

With its bold shape and rich coloration, this plant is ideal for aquascapers looking to add structure, color, and texture to their layouts. Its ability to cling to surfaces and grow outward makes it highly versatile, whether used in natural, Dutch, or Iwagumi-inspired tanks. A distinctive plant that enhances both depth and complexity in underwater design.
