DIDIPLIS DIANDRA – Colorful Stem Plant for Freshwater Aquariums

Didiplis diandra is a beautiful stem plant native to North America, highly valued in aquascaping for its fine, needle-like leaves and vibrant colors. A member of the Lythraceae family, it features opposite leaf pairs along delicate stems, giving it a graceful and airy appearance. It grows up to 30 cm in height, making it ideal for the midground section of the aquarium layout.

This species thrives under strong lighting, which helps to bring out its vivid orange and red hues. Without sufficient light, it remains green and develops more slowly. Supplementing with CO2, along with iron and micronutrients, significantly enhances growth and coloration. It propagates easily through top cuttings or lateral shoots, making it a popular choice for aquascaping enthusiasts.

Its rich colors provide striking contrast when planted alongside green stem plants like Rotala 'Green' or in mixed arrangements with other colorful species.

Key features:

  • Fine, needle-like leaves arranged in opposite pairs

  • Brilliant orange to red coloration under strong light

  • Moderate growth rate, height up to 30 cm

  • Perfect for the midground of planted tanks

  • Prefers soft to moderately hard water, pH 5–7

  • Requires 20–30 mg/l of CO2 and rich fertilization

  • Excellent for aquascaping and natural aquarium layouts
