Riccia fluitans, commonly known as Crystalwort, is a globally widespread aquatic moss that gained fame in aquascaping through the works of Takashi Amano. Though naturally a floating plant, it can be attached to rocks or driftwood to form vibrant green cushions for aquarium foregrounds.
It is easy to grow and thrives with the addition of CO₂ and moderate lighting. When regularly trimmed, Riccia forms dense mats that enhance the aesthetic and structure of nature-style or Iwagumi layouts. Its ability to host microfauna makes it valuable for shrimp tanks and fry refuges.
