HELANTHIUM TENELLUM 'BROAD LEAF' – Compact Carpet Plant for Aquarium Foreground
Helanthium tenellum 'Broad Leaf' is a freshwater aquarium plant discovered during a botanical expedition in Florida in 2012. At first glance, it closely resembles the standard Helanthium tenellum (formerly Echinodorus tenellus), but it can be distinguished by its broader leaf blades, up to 2.5 mm wide, and its slightly shorter growth height. The bright medium-green leaves make it an excellent choice for creating vivid contrasts in aquascaping, pairing beautifully with colorful species such as Hygrophila pinnatifida.
Helanthium tenellum 'Broad Leaf' spreads easily through runners, forming a dense and compact carpet that adds a natural and tidy look to the aquarium. Its care requirements are similar to those of standard Helanthium tenellum, thriving under medium to high light and benefiting greatly from CO₂ supplementation. Vigorous trimming encourages the development of a strong and uniform grassy carpet.
