PROSERPINACA PALUSTRIS – Ornamental Aquatic Plant with Feathered Leaves and Vivid Color Shades

Proserpinaca palustris is an elegant and unusual stem plant native to the Americas, prized for its finely serrated underwater leaves and shifting colors. In its emersed form, it appears rather simple with green leaves, but once submerged and acclimated, it reveals spectacular foliage in hues of copper, green, and orange. This plant is perfect for aquascapers looking to add a stunning focal point to their layouts.

Its slow growth and unique appearance make it ideal for Nano Cubes and small tanks, especially when planted in groups to create a bushy effect. Regular trimming is recommended to remove older, less attractive parts of the stem and to maintain its compact structure.

Key features: • Finely serrated underwater foliage with variable coloring
• Slow and tidy growth, ideal for artistic aquascaping
• Best placed in the middleground zone of the aquarium
• Requires medium to high lighting and CO₂ for optimal coloration
• Offers striking contrast when combined with broad-leaved plants
• Prefers stable conditions for healthy growth

Cultivation and Care
Ideal temperature: 10–28°C, pH 5–8, very soft to moderately hard water. CO₂ addition (20–30 mg/l) enhances growth and coloration. Propagation occurs via side shoots or stem cuttings. Since the stems don’t branch easily, replant cuttings in the same spot for a denser effect.

Why choose Proserpinaca palustris
A rare and elegant choice for aquascaping, offering visual contrast and sophisticated texture. Suitable for experienced aquarists seeking a standout plant for detailed, high-impact layouts.
