STAUROGYNE REPENS – Compact Foreground Plant for Freshwater Aquariums
Staurogyne repens is a hardy, compact aquarium plant ideal for the foreground of freshwater tanks. Native to South America, specifically the Rio Cristalino in the southern Amazon, it features small, bright green leaves and a low, creeping growth pattern. Although similar to Hygrophila, it differs in its cohesive, compact structure and strong rooting behavior, making it a staple in natural aquascaping.
This slow-growing plant reaches a maximum height of about 10 cm and thrives under medium lighting and moderate CO₂ levels. To encourage horizontal spreading, it's recommended to trim the taller vertical shoots. This stimulates the emergence of new runners that form a dense, natural carpet over time.
Cultivated in vitro, Staurogyne repens is free from snails, algae, and pests. The high-quality nutrient gel ensures rapid adaptation to the aquarium environment and is completely safe for shrimp and sensitive fish species. It's a great option for natural, Dutch, or minimalist aquascape layouts.
