BOLBITIS HEUDELOTII – African Aquatic Fern for Wood or Rock Attachment

Bolbitis heudelotii is a graceful aquatic fern native to West Africa, known for its delicate, translucent green leaves and slow but elegant growth. Reaching 15–40 cm in height, this plant brings texture, depth, and natural beauty to planted aquariums, especially in biotope or nature-style layouts.

Unlike rooted plants, Bolbitis must not be buried in substrate—its rhizome will rot if covered. Instead, it should be attached to driftwood or stone using fishing line or plant-safe ties until it anchors itself. Once established, it forms dense, flowing clumps that offer shelter and visual softness.

Propagation is simple through rhizome division, and although it grows slowly under moderate lighting, its growth accelerates with CO₂ injection and slightly acidic water. Its wavy fronds sway gently in the current, adding natural movement to the aquascape and helping to balance the tank’s ecosystem.
